Trail Access & Signage
The Treadwell Trail is accessible at two locations – at the end of St. Ann’s Avenue and just past the log shelter and Five-Stamp Mill at Savikko Park. Introductory trail signage, meticulously researched by the Treadwell Society, is available at both locations.
A total of 16 interpretive signs can be found along the walking trail, which also leads to the preserved Treadwell Mine Office Building. In that protected space, pictorial picnic tables and large interpretive panels featuring photographs and maps provide an overview of the mining operation and some of the people who lived at Treadwell. Note that the current trail does not necessarily follow or represent the boardwalks or pathways that existed when the mines were operating. The Juneau Douglas High School cross country program added to and improved the current walking trails, which are regularly utilized for school and community walks and track meets. Additional trail signage is planned.
